1. Overview

This Privacy Policy applies to TV Remote Control | Universal (the “App”) and its support website (together, the “Services”). In this Policy, “we,” “us,” and “Developer” refer to the provider of the App.

Privacy at a glance: The App uses your local network to discover and control compatible TVs. TV-control commands are sent directly between your device and the TV on your local network. We do not operate a server that receives those commands.

2. Information we process

Local network and TV information

When you grant Local Network permission, the App may discover and communicate with compatible TVs and streaming devices on the same network. Depending on the TV platform, the App may process information such as the TV name, model, operating platform, local IP address, available connection protocols, pairing status, pairing token, and MAC address when available.

This information is used to establish the connection, remember compatible TVs, reconnect, and support features such as Wake-on-LAN. TV information and connection preferences are generally stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.

Photos and videos you choose

If you use media casting, the App processes only the photo or video you select for that action. Selected media is used to deliver the requested casting feature to a compatible TV. We do not upload or retain your personal media on our servers.

Purchases and subscriptions

Paid features may be offered through Apple’s in-app purchase system. Apple processes payment and billing information. We do not receive your full payment card details. The App may receive or verify limited transaction information, such as product identifier, purchase status, entitlement status, transaction identifier, subscription expiration or renewal status, and receipt-related information needed to unlock or restore paid features.

Subscription management (RevenueCat)

We use RevenueCat, a subscription management service, to activate, validate, and restore in-app purchases and subscriptions. RevenueCat processes limited purchase information on our behalf, such as a randomly generated app user identifier, product identifier, purchase and entitlement status, subscription renewal or expiration information, and receipt data provided by Apple. This information is not linked to your name, email address, or other directly identifying information, and it is not used to track you across apps or websites. RevenueCat processes this information under its own privacy policy, available at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Support communications

If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to include in your message, such as your email address, device or TV details, screenshots, and a description of the issue. Please avoid sending information that is not necessary for your request.

Website technical information

This website does not use our own analytics, advertising pixels, or marketing cookies. It may be hosted through GitHub Pages. As the hosting provider, GitHub may process standard technical information such as IP address, browser details, and request logs under its own privacy terms.

Advertising and attribution

The App does not display third-party advertising and does not use Google AdMob or another advertising SDK. If we promote the App through Apple Search Ads, the App may use Apple’s AdServices framework to receive an anonymous attribution token that indicates whether the App was installed after an Apple Search Ads campaign. This attribution information is campaign-level and aggregated; it is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across apps or websites. It helps us measure the effectiveness of our own marketing. If additional advertising is introduced in a future app version, we will update this Policy and the App Store privacy disclosures before or when that data processing begins, and obtain consent where required.

3. How we use information

We process information only as reasonably necessary to:

  • discover, pair with, and control compatible TVs;
  • remember devices and reconnect on your local network;
  • provide photo and video casting that you request;
  • activate, validate, and restore subscriptions or purchases;
  • measure the effectiveness of our own App Store marketing campaigns;
  • respond to support and privacy requests;
  • protect the App, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations.

Where applicable, our legal bases include performing the service you request, your consent for device permissions, compliance with legal obligations, and our legitimate interests in securing and supporting the App.

4. When information may be shared

We do not sell your personal information. Information may be processed by or disclosed to:

  • Apple, for App Store distribution, purchases, subscriptions, refunds, and purchase restoration;
  • RevenueCat, Inc., our subscription management provider, to activate, validate, and restore purchases and subscriptions;
  • GitHub, if this website is hosted through GitHub Pages;
  • professional advisers or authorities, where reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights, investigate misuse, or respond to a valid legal request;
  • a successor entity, in connection with a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or transfer of the App, subject to applicable law.

Third-party services process information under their own privacy policies and may process data in countries other than your own.

5. Retention and security

Locally stored TV information remains on your device until you remove the saved device, reset the App, or delete the App, subject to iOS backup behavior. Support messages are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to answer the request, maintain records, resolve disputes, and comply with law. Purchase records are retained by Apple according to Apple’s policies and legal obligations. Subscription status records processed by RevenueCat are retained under RevenueCat’s own policies for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information. No system or method of transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

6. Your choices and rights

  • You can revoke Local Network access in iOS Settings. Doing so will prevent the App from discovering or controlling TVs on your network.
  • You can remove saved TVs inside the App, reset app data where available, or delete the App.
  • You can manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple Account settings. Deleting the App does not cancel an active subscription.
  • You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection where those rights apply under your local law.

Because most TV information is stored only on your device, we may not possess a server-side copy that can be accessed or deleted by us.

7. Children’s privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. A parent or guardian who believes a child has provided personal information may contact us.

8. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes to the App, service providers, legal requirements, or privacy practices. The revised date at the top of this page will show when the Policy was last updated. Material changes may also be communicated in the App where appropriate.
